Balance of NFL Power Leaning Towards the NFC

by

Six weeks into the 2012 season, the NFC is flexing its muscles.

A peek at the standings show the following:

  • The NFC is 19-9 v the AFC
  • Only two AFC teams have winning records
  • Five AFC teams have been cumulatively outscored by 45 or more points
  • No NFC team has been cumulatively outscored by more than 33

The two best AFC teams (Houston & Baltimore) were tagged for their only loss by .500 NFC teams (Philly & Green Bay); the Texans were blown out on their own field.

The Patriots have lost their only two NFC games, and the only Saints win was over San Diego.

In Pro Football Talk’s power rankings, the top half features 11 NFC and 5 AFC squads.

Taking a realistic view in the NFC,  ATL, NYG, GB, SF, & CHI look like solid playoff teams. Only HOU, BAL, and maybe NE look strong in the AFC.

So what does that all mean?

Not a lot, really. There is plenty of football yet to be played. It does seem like there is a decent chance that two 8-8 teams make the playoffs in the AFC though.

Of course,  in 2010, the Packers started 3-3 and won the Super Bowl. The Giants were 6-6 and won last year.

It will again probably come down to who is hot in December & January, but right now the NFC is playing pretty good football top to bottom.

Awesome get Alex! Glad The Man himself, Kurt Warner, anrsweed it too.I have to go with the Packers because they are a team that has been plauged with injuries but keep on ticking. If they make it in, I think they can do it with Aaron Rodgers or Matt Flynn. Folks on defense like Clay Matthews are Good to have along as well. For the team already in (and in the AFC), I go with the Chiefs. I think they are a team that had some rough, humbling moments like losing to the Broncos but are a stable team. We are going to see them show up and be ready, I feel, like earlier in the season. They’re a young squad doing their thing and there is no stopping them when they stay hot during the game.

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and all. But think of if you added some great images or videos
to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images
and videos, this blog could undeniably be one of the
greatest in its field. Terrific blog!
