The Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee Is Fraudulent

by

Lets get this out of the way first–congratulations to the recent elections into the HOF:

Curtis Martin – the epitome of durability & production. A class act to boot.

Chris Doleman – 150 sacks in 15 yrs.

Willie Roaf – dominant Tackle for 14 yrs.

Dermontti Dawson – long overdue; best C of the 1990s.

Cortez Kennedy – great very good DT

Jack Butler – senior committee selection from the 50s.

The process for electing HOF members needs to be reevaluated.

I understand that there are some guys that have waited to get in for a few years. I get it–it’s a process that does not favor recent nominees.

But when you are on the selection committee, you have an important job: hold true the values as stated by the HOF – vote for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to professional football.

With that in mind, lets take a look at who didn’t make it:

Jerome Bettis – arguably the best big back since Riggins or Earl Campbell.

Tim Brown – #5 in rec, #4 in yds, #6  in TD catches; #5 in career punt return yds.

(Shockingly, those two didn’t even make the TOP 10 in the elimination process)

Chris Carter – #4 rec, #8 yds, # 4 TD

Bill Parcells – 3 SB appearances, 2 Wins. His coaching tree includes 5 more SBs (+ 1 more later today).

I don’t want to make this about Cortez Kennedy, but it has to start there. He was a really good DT for quite a while. A poor man’s Warren Sapp. But he isn’t a HOFer.

Look at those names – the HOF committee decided that Kennedy was a better professional football player than ALL OF THEM.

How can we take them seriously? He made more of a contribution to football than Parcells?

You can also make a case for Steve Atwater; Roger Craig; Charles Haley; Andre Reed; Will Shields; Randall Cunningham; or Aeneas Williams over Kennedy.

The selection committee consists of one writer from each NFL team, and 12 other others.

Is transparency in order? With such an honor comes responsibility. It’s time for them to be held accountable.

Methinks the blog writer has a small case…dwelling on Kennedy while saying everyone else was fine is kind of nit-picky. Often, testimony from those who played with and against a person is counted. If people thought Kennedy’s reputation was overwrought, then they would have said so. The others will get their turn, no doubt. Just wait.

I believe that they will get in eventually, Jeff. But something HAS to change. All I want is the writers to put in the best 5 (plus the senior). It seems there was conspiring for Kennedy. How else can he make it players clearly better than him?

      Thanks for reading

[…] It’s obvious to me now that collusion is the explanation for the committee’s ineptitude. […]

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this blog.

It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance.
I must say you have done a very good job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very quick for me on Firefox.
    Excellent Blog!
