ESPN – The Entertainment & Sports Promotion Network

What do Danica Patrick and UConn coach Gino Auriemma have in common? I would say three things:

1) They are all over SportsCenter

2) I had to google them to find out how they spell their names.

3) No real sports fan gives a crap about either of them.

Last year, the 4-letter network’s coverage was over the top comparing UConn’s winning streak to UCLA men’s record.

Hey ESPN – they play with a different size ball. IT’S NOT THE SAME GAME.

Now we have Danica all over SC for finishing a Busch Series race (Nationwide for those of you that actually care) in 21st place. The big story was that she finished something; I guess she doesn’t do that on those medium-sized tracks, even in open wheel racing.

I am sure diehard NASCAR fans want to hear about the 21st place finisher over who won the race (Elliot Sadler for those keeping track).

The only reason these supposed sports stories show up on SC is CROSS PROMOTION. ESPN carries the Women’s NCAA Tournament and NASCAR.

But what they don’t get is that they are turning off more and more of their viewers. And with so many other options (MLB, NFL and NBA Networks), they are facilitating their own demise.

The more ESPN cross promos and shows sports I don’t care about (women’s college basketball and Danica Patrick), the more I’m going to turn the channel.

Don’t get me wrong though. Men and Women’s games should never be compared, I didn’t even know who Gino Auriemma was. And I agree that somebody who finished the race in the top 10 should have gotten a headline over her. But she’s a female driver and a go daddy spokesperson. Sex sells ya know.

Yes Sex sells on FX or HBO but I do not want it on my sports shows. Believe me when I was looking at pics for Danica I had a hard time not using something that might sell a little bit more.

The 500 was lame, but you where right on Fase. JJ was at the back of the pack with another bad fsiinh at Daytona, but I can guarantee it won’t matter a bit come the end of the year.

issues. I simply wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other than that,
